PetTronix was founded by Mark Mitchell after he conceptualized a device to help keep an eye on his dog, Katie. Katie was a rescued puppy, found in a ditch by the side of a highway when she was just a few months old. This type of trauma can be hard on dogs and Mark wanted to make sure Katie did not go missing again.
At home, Mark trained Katie to stay close by and she was very good about not wandering off. But Mark liked to take Katie on his hiking trips in the Colorado back country. Dogs being dogs, occasionally Katie's curious nature would urge her off the trail and out of sight. Most of the time, a few shouts would be enough for Katie to return. But there were other times when the terrain was less forgiving when it was difficult for Mark and Katie to locate each other, even though she had not actually wandered very far.
